Terna has announced the reorganisation of the electricity grid in the Bologna area

The return of over 140 hectares of land, the demolition of 48 km of old overhead power lines, and the disposal of 14 km of old underground structures are some of the environmental benefits generated by the reorganisation of the Bologna area electricity grid. Terna, the TSO that manages the Italian transmission grid, has announced that the Italian Ministry of Economic Development has started the authorisation procedure that will lead to the implementation of works aimed at modernising the electricity system in the area of Bologna.
As Terna wrote in a statement, the works have a value of around 40 million euros and will create a renewed electricity system to improve the resilience, quality and safety of the network, as well as of the services provided to businesses and citizens. To this end, the Italian Transmission System Operator has announced that the reorganisation of the electricity grid will involve the municipalities of Bologna, Casalecchio di Reno, Anzola dell’Emilia, San Lazzaro di Savena, Castel Maggiore, Castenaso, Calderara di Reno and Sala Bolognese. Terna has added that a notice with the land parcels that may be potentially affected by the works will be published, so that the owners can view the reorganisation project and, if necessary, to write observations to the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, or to the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of Land and Sea.
As pointed out by Terna in its statement, the reorganisation of the electricity grid in the Bologna area pursues a double objective: on one hand, it will make it possible to modernise the 132 kV grid and, on the other, it will not make it necessary to build a new infrastructure north of Bologna. The project will bring great benefits to the environment as it will allow for the return of over 140 hectares of land, the demolition of 48 km of old overhead power lines, as well as the disposal of 14 km of old underground structures.
