The Marche-based Sabelli Group is betting on frozen pizza cheeses for international markets and has unveiled an industrial plan running through 2028, aiming to boost exports from 50 to 80 million. Freezing Italian mozzarella, even for use on pizzas in far-off markets like Japan or South America, isn’t a problem at all. On the contrary, it can serve as a strategic tool for expanding abroad, especially for a mid-sized Italian company focused on product quality, navigating its way among the giants of the food industry and facing geopolitical challenges. This is the view of Angelo Galeati, who, together with his cousin Simone Mariani, serves as CEO of Sabelli Group in Ascoli Piceno, the heart of the mozzarella district.
The plan foresees a total investment of €45 million over the next three years, aimed at innovation and quality improvement. It is built around two main pillars: continuing with strategic acquisitions and expanding into international markets through the introduction of new products, such as frozen mozzarella. On January 14 and 15, at Marca, the Bologna trade fair dedicated to retail brands, Sabelli unveiled its lactose-free light mozzarella along with the new products included in the Frozen project.
“For the past year, we’ve been focusing on frozen products and upgrading our facilities. These are different types of products that can withstand freezing and thawing. We’re investing in R&D and technology to make this possible. In Treviso, we even have a dedicated blast chiller for burrata and mozzarella,” stated the CEO.
